Newcomers: How to Handle Them

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • So, I really don't like to open a new discussion when we have a very important project in our hands, but I could really use some advice here.

So, yesterday I joined a 10 player domination game. Almost every single player was new, and there was only one spot left, so I decided that I could help the newcomers love the game more if there was a kind experienced player there to which they could ask questions.
Now it gets interesting. I noticed that 3 players were new players, joined the game yesterday, and they all had L2 licenses which made me happy. They were probably friends in real life, and I confirmed my theory today: One of them gifted 4 positive medals to one and 1 honorable foe medal to the other. But they have 0 games, which irritated me, kind of. But that's not where my main problem lies.
Today I got attacked by one of them (the medal giver). And when I tried to open chats with him, he simply said "no." He has his two buddies as bordermates, so it seems he didn't think much lol.
So what should I do now? Should I try to gather others and destroy this alliance? I know playing with friends might be fun, but I can't simply ley them win, right? And I don't want to wreck them too, as this is their first game and they might never come back...
    Any advice?

  • The one factor I would take into account: they have L2. That means they're gonna be here for a while (most likely). You don't want to have a bunch of L1s crushed by them, and not want to come back. The L2s will likely come back no matter what. So maybe get 2-3 other L1s to help you. But don't turn the entire game against those 3.

  • Crush em.
Multiboxing should be discouraged- but I'd like to think it could help the L1's understand that they can do something against this alliance. Some of my funnest games where against alliances such as these- on the other hand being ganged up on by a tight irl alliance can be categorized as one of my least fun experiences in subterfuge.

I'd openly talk to the other 2 multiboxers. Sometimes you can charm them :D

  • I'm curious as to what you chose to do?

  • A game is sometimes not defined by who wins and loses but in how you win and lose coming from a person who loses a lot. I find some of the L2 aren't really new. They are just new accounts but from players who already have sufficient experience even if the game says 0 games. Either that or they pick up the UI and specialist pretty fast.

I am defending against my enemy fiercely, turning it around with a king for now. I have spoken with 2 people and they agreed to help me, so it is kind of fair.

  • This sounds like they're all the same person.
