Specialist Idea "Missionary"

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Type: Offensive
    Promotes from Double Agent (?)
    Icon: Book
Tagline: It is only in darkness that we realize the light.

Description: Local: Only when in sub-to-sub combat or attacking an enemy outpsot, all enemy specialists are converted to your side if the Missionary is captured. Converted specialists still remain captured until release or liberation.

What this means: Almost a reverse Hypnotist, if this specialist loses in combat, all enemy specialists are converted to your side, but at the same time captured. This means that only by capturing the outpost they are stationed at, can they be yours. Use carefully, because if you send the Missionary by himself, a single driller can capture your Missionary without any cost on their part. If the Missionary wins in combat, nothing happens. Missionary's effects do not occur when defending (otherwise it would be like Hypno).

    Opinions?

  • I'm kinda confused...

Is it like a hypno in battle, where you take their specs? Do they become yours forever?

  • I would support this.

The Conversion of enemy specs to your side only occurs when you will lose the fight.
Once you lose, all enemy specialists in that fight become yours forever.
However, having lost the fight, they are now in captured state, and returned to the enemy's nearest outpost.
The only way you can get those specialists which are now yours, is to liberate the outpost they are being held at.
If however, the enemy has a hypnotist on the outpost which they are held at, then the enemy will get all their specialists back plus the Missionary.

If you win the fight, you capture enemy specialists like normal, and the specialists still belong to the enemy, now held captive at your nearest outpost.

Ohhh. So you send the missionary at a death sub, the specs become yours but captive, you have a diplomat back and they come back triumphant. What happens to the missionary and the other drillers?

  • What would make this better than a DA? it seems like a bit of a downgrade if I have to go capture the outpost back or spend another hire on a diplomat.

Forces the enemy to decide if he wants to keep his defending specialists or evacuate them. A DA is mostly defensive (destroying incoming subs), while a Missionary is offensive in that it can attack and put pressure on defenders, forcing them to make a decision that they did not want to be in.
A strategy here could be to lead an attack sub with the Missionary minus the shield value of the defending outpost, followed by the shield value +1 of the outpost to recapture your new specialists and Missionary. In this case, the defender can only evacuate to save his specialists, or have to decide if losing those specialists is worth the defense.
