Specialist idea: Sonar operator

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

Local ability: while on a sub that sub has a radar range equal to half of the normal outpost radar range. All subs in his radar range travel at .5 their speed.
    Promoted from sentry

    First thoughts?

This is exactly what I wanted!
Although I would consider lowering the radar to 25% and lower the speed to a third and limit only to enemy subs and not other subs.

  • Yes. So much yes! Best specialist idea in a long time.

I would lean more toward Juan's tweaks for the specifics, and I'm not sure Sentry is the right spec to promote from, but it's a capability I think we've all wanted at one point or other. Making enemy subs go slower is a very nice touch and fits in beautifully with the lore, on top of making it an intriguing combination of intel-offensive specialist capabilities.

Actually, using Juan's slightly nerfed stats, I don't think it would need to be a promoted specialist, it would stand well as a first hire.

  • Slight tweak: It drops the speed of the sub to a third of its normal speed, so a person with 2 admirals would have a sub going two thirds regular speed, and a person with 4 admirals would have normal speed.

  • I think dropping enemy subs to a third speed is kind of excessive. Also, would a sentry onboard the sub of the sonar operator be able to shoot things?

I think it's kind of fair, maybe the sonar range is too long.. But I think it's okay, since it only really affects you if you are traveling in the same direction and roughly the same speed as the other sub.

  • Can you imagine how good this specialist would be with the pirate. The pirate would remove the speed loss and pair it with a navigator and you could chase down anyone's queen without having to constantly take bases to extend your sonar.

I could do that but if someone didn't have an admiral then the sonar operator would be useless. I think that dropping the speed to half is still a good counter to the admiral bit it would be better if everything is affected.
