Specialist Idea: Martyr Promotion: "Legacy"

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Type: Defensive
    Promoted From: Martyr
Flavor text: History finds that the person does not make the mark important, rather the mark makes the person.
    Icon: Radiation Symbol

Description: Destroys all subs and outposts within Legacy's blast radius when participating in combat. Blast radius is 35% of standard sonar range. Leaves a radioactive cloud that damages all subs within its bounds once every two hours. Each dose of radiation destroys 5% of drillers rounded up. Cloud radius is 10% of standard sonar range.

As a combination of an upgraded Martyr and a Sentry, this Specialist forms a powerful deterrent to combat, with the ability to plant essentially a no-fly zone in the middle of a warpath. Perhaps if it catches a Mine in the blast radius, the owner could lose Neptunium to the nuclear explosion on top of having his/her mine destroyed.

    Thoughts?

I find the concept quite well designed. However I guess it needs a buff, the cloud range of %10 is too small. Maybe do it %20?

  • I like it, Silver.

Forcing players to route subs around the area or take damage could be an excellent tactical play.

I agree with Niv, though. The radius could be bigger and still not be overpowered.

  • I like the idea of giving the Martyr a promotable option. However I don't care for the whole radiation idea.

I think having the radiation in the game is too permanent. If the player is eliminated then the radiation becomes an annoyance. You could combat this by giving it a decay period, but that would feel a bit to complex. Plus the sentry's ability is very similar to this already. The Sentry has a defensive area of effect that needs to be avoided, but once the sentry is moved or destroyed the area goes away. Either temporarily or permanently.

A matyr is someone who gives a stronger purpose to a cause by dying for it. Which them leads to their legacy being remembered.

Someone's legacy is suppose to inspire people. I think that a legacy specialists should work something like this...

    Type: Defensive
    Promoted From: Martyr
Flavor text: What people remember is more important than facts on a page
    Icon: Statue

Description: When the Legacy specialists is present at an outpost, they convert 5% of the opponent's drillers (rounded up) to your side. This is only effective when defending an outpost.

This brings the whole idea of a "legacy" into the lore behind the specialist. The opponent's drillers change sides because the remember the legacy of the martyr, and are inspired to fight for them.

This can also be the defensive opposite of the Thief, which only works when attacking outposts.

  • General, I liked your concept. However, it feels too weak at the moment, making the percent something like 20% would be much better in my opinion. (and even then he would still be outclassed by Engineer, which has a similar effect and has its global)

I see what you are saying and I agree with you. I was unsure what to put for the percentage of drillers that are converted. Now that I think about it, doesn't the thief convert 15%?

Either way the percentage can be debated, but I though the idea as a whole might work better for a Legacy specialist.
