Comrades! We must Unite Against The Red Army!

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I think we need to show the devs that WE are serious. No skin of their teeth if nothing happens. When people stopped buying L2 and medals, I am sure that they felt letdown af. Where is their motivation to come to us with spunk and vigor? We are the ones pushing for an update. Let's rally the community.

  • I pledge $20 for a balance update.
I fear the cost of updates on itunes is very high though.

Well, did they even market the game? Medals were always kinda lame. But an easy source of a few dollars a day from the more dedicated. And then they changed the only medals that mattered...

After further though, we likely don't even need an update to the game. But rather an update to the rules engine that makes a few tweaks. Which I would assume would be even cheaper to do?

  • Let me know what we decide as how to donate! I am willing to put up 50$ as of right now. Maybe more depending. Just let me know when we decide how to donate it.

  • Also, I found an old thread saying how user-created tactical puzzles would be nice. I strongly agree with that. Please ask Ron and Noel to implement that, as if they do tactical puzzles could still be great fun even for those who have already completed them all.

As someone who found Subterfuge only a couple of months ago, was the marketing really that poor? Having browsed the forums and the devs' blog quite a bit it did seem like after 3 years of work they were burnt out and barely tried to market/monetize the game but maybe some of you who've been here longer know more. It does seem like there are lots of monetization ideas that could have been tried (skins, L3 where game creator has more control over the details of the game like starting base numbers or the various specialist multipliers, etc.).

Also, what did you mean by "changing the only medals that mattered"?

  • I don't know if the marketing was poor, or just nonexistent. I found the game initially by luck after checking TA... but other than an article or two there, and maybe a few features on the App Store, but other than that, I don't know what else they did.

  • I stumbled across it from a mention on /r/boardgames, I think in a discussion about Diplomacy. Never really saw Subterfuge promoted anywhere online.

Yeah, and the App Store is pretty shitty. - Which is why I think a port to Steam would be awesome. It's a perfect Steam game, in actually gameplay mechanic terms. It's deep, fun, like a real life game of risk, and you're instantly in a huge market place of potential customers.

Yeah, the game play isn't exactly great for a computer game. But it's irrelevant because everyone has smartphones.
