New Spec Idea (have yet to hear of this one)

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • What if there were a spec that allowed you to be online without anyone knowing? If you had hired it, or have it available for hire, the game could ask you if you want to use it before allowing you in and "breaking the seal" of not being online, which is sometimes an important aspect. Allows for a yet to be determined amount of time of play that does not affect the "last seen" feature. I am not smart enough to determine how much time would be appropriate. Four hours? Less? Could be great for baiting launches and coordinating shit.

I bring this up, because I am in a game where me not being present is important for diplomatic reasons, although difficult when you look at the strategic side of things. I need to plan shit with my fellow turtle, although need to keep the aggressors believing that I want a peace deal, THOUGH am "asleep," thus delaying their attacks. Very complicated to explain, really.

  • Amazing idea but it would only be useful against experienced players who look at your activity to determine your sleep schedule which I couldn't ever do. But if they can see that you have that spec, they won't look at your activity and assume that your always active and not trust you anymore.
    My new party trick:
I swallow 2 pieces of string and an hour later they come out of my ass tied together.
    I shit you knot.

  • Unfortunately, the sleep thing is extremely prevalent in all of my games. I know where these fuckers live and when they sleep, lawl. Think of the random, sneaky gifting that could happen, beyond enemy sonar...

  • And I view it as a one time only sort of spec. Not a continual thing. I woulda payed two hires for this spec today, for just a few hours.

  • These specialist are getting really meta now. The idea itself is completely original and amazing. Don't know how practical it would actually be, but I love it.

If you want, you can end there because that was my initial thought, and I still very much agree with it. But I ended up thinking about this for too long and thought of 3 possible issues if it was added.

First off, in order to activate the specialist you would need to have the game open, meaning you are online. It would need some weird coding or you would need several hours foresight otherwise the game would let your enemies know you were online seconds ago. Sure, it may look like you aren't online now but looking like you were online seconds ago would not help you in most situations where you would want to use this specialist.

Additionally, there is no other specialist in the game that is directly tied to diplomacy. Since diplomacy is such a huge part of this game, any specialist that changes it - no matter how small - could be a problem. It also opens a world of possibilities for potential other diplomacy based specialist, for better or for worse.

My final mean criticism for some random and fun thought experiment you had is this. As you have admitted, it is unbelievably situational. Chances are that you couldn't get one when you need it and you would have one available when you need something else. Also, stacking would be an issue. Have enough and you could make it so you a forever not online. Remove stacking and you get a situational specialist that is only good once and after that wastes a hire slot.

  • Here is the true answer, have an in-app purchase. For $1.99 you are cloaked for 4 hours. Easily accessible, doesn't waste a hire slot, always there for the exact time you need it, and brings the game closer to the pay-to-win feature that makes apps so great.

    Kappa.

  • Agreed. Coding would be an absolute mess. Not a very practical spec in terms of development. But could be SO much fun. My brain is buzzing with potential scenarios...!

In agreement. And Zyxe, pay to win ruins game because then richer people get an advantage, or people who can spend or are willing to spend money. It's unfair.
