How to deal with a player w/ KINGS - for newcomers

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I'm over these "nerf the king" and "king is OP" threads. Probably the majority are from newcomers. So this is how you bring them down without resorting to kings yourself:

But first, THINGS NOT TO DO:

    A) DONT POST ON THE FORUMS THE KING IS OP
Because it's not. If you must complain, send your complaints via PM to TopKilla.

    B) DONT BITCH ABOUT KINGS
Before anything, respect kings but dont fear them. Not even multiple ones. You've lost the war if you fear them. Now to business...

    THINGS TO DO:

    1) HIRE A THIEF (or two)
Thieves *steal* 15%. That 15% is taken from your enemy and goes to you. Thief combat priority is 4, so the stealing occurs *before* the king effect. King occurs after specialists.

    E.g.
    Scenario 1 - no thief
    100d no thief vs 100d + king
    King kills 33.
67 vs 100d = king player wins by 33. No surprise. Losing player posts new thread on forum that king is OP.

Scenario 2 - thief vs king
    100d + thief vs 100d + king
    Thief steals 15d
    115d v 85d (end of specialist combat)
    King kills 28d (85/3=28)
    87d vs 85d
Player wins with 2d + thief

YES: YOU READ THAT RIGHT - THE KING WAS PWNED BY A THIEF.

Think of a thief as a localized king, at the cost of one hire and without the mess of giving up your shields.

    2) GENERAL(s) and/or SECURITY CHIEFS
This strategy may work as a deterrent to a king player early on, it's defensive and won't stop huge subs. Plus turtling is boring. However, hiring a diplomat can make the shield/general detereant tactic fun.

    3) Go after a player when they have a hypnotist hire coming up instead of waiting for them to promote to a king. If you can, force them to hire something more immediate.

    4) A king has powers in numbers. So avoid the numbers and go after the "soft" outposts without shields.

    5) To maximize the benefits of kings, players have them located with their queen to maximize shields. Quite often a tinkerer will be at the same location. The developers made it a Centralized target for you - go after it.

    6) Since everyone seems to hate kings so much, here's a thought- use diplomacy to form an alliance against the player with a king.

    7) lastly, if all this is too confusing, just hire a double agent or martyr.
Nothing stops a 300d sub with three kings quite as poetically as a martyr.

None of this is rocket science to experienced players. Hope it helps newcomers, and stops the king nerf nonsense.

  • Or you can try to bribe Ron or Noel to nerf it. If you have the money.

I personally never fear kings and only get them if I'm either at a huge outpost lead or turtling at one outpost. I don't even care if someone gets a king. I just attack them bc they are an easier target then anyone else.
    My new party trick:
I swallow 2 pieces of string and an hour later they come out of my ass tied together.
    I shit you knot.
