Starting positions

  • Is there a plan to better balance starting positions?

    I've seen this a number of times where myself or other players are vastly out of reach of key outposts or have great oceans between their own. Or in the most recent game, I could reach 4 generators but every factory was out of my reach. This left me with 7 generators and 2 factories while others could grab 3-5 factories even before I could grab the closest generators. The only other way I could out on top is if I got the perfect specialist choices.

  • we intentionally created some variability in starting positions, factory/generator distributions, etc.

    the game only generates maps that pass certain specific tests to ensure that the map is something we consider fair, and we leave the rest to diplomacy and strategy.

    different maps and starting positions require different strategies (both diplomatic and military). we think this makes the game more interesting, even if (and especially when) your initial position is an odd one.
