    Baaa! I'm a Tall goat.

We all know NAP's, those wonderful little agreements that keep you safe. There's some discussion over what constitutes breaking a NAP or what you can or can't do while you have a NAP with somebod, but there are a few basic things that everybody agrees on.

-While you have a NAP with somebody, you can't attack them, and they can't attack you.
-If you want to attack somebody, you need to give them a warning that the NAP is ending. Customarily 24 hours, but it depends on the agreement. Explicitly stating this part is obviously recommended.
-During the 24 hour notice period, no party can attack the other, as the NAP is still in effect.

I don't think anybody is going to dispute the general idea of these. We're all familiar with them.

So, let's make a... 'hypothetical' scenario. We have a game, and you ask somebody for a NAP, they agree, and 24 hours notice is established. Then, as you talk and make some other allies, the idea comes up to attack the person you just made the NAP with. You politely give them notice, apologize for breaking it so soon after making it. (Let's say about two hours later.) but such is subterfuge.

You then come back the next day to find the person had launched at you almost 12 hours before the warning period has ended. This is obviously not within the terms of the NAP, and you remind them as such. So far, it's been civil and you feel a bit bad about what seems to be several other people ganging up on this person, but that's the game.

Soon afterword, the person comes back and says that they are justified in what they're doing becasue they forgot. Oh, and the NAP was so short. They then accuse you of being purposefully manipulative and only making the NAP to get a private sheild, despite this not being how a NAP works. You try to explain it to them, but they continue ranting about how there's now a coalition against them and that you are ganging up becasue they're new and that you are being dishonest and really he forgot about it so you should just calm down becasue it was a mistake but I'm also not going to stop who's in this coalition you're just targeting me that's not fun.

Obviously this isn't hypothetical, it just happened batween me and another player. I wouldn't bring pointless arguments like this up except this person has both chosen to make it public and directly called me manipulative and unfair. I still appogize for breaking it so soon, and the amount of people fighting you, but I'm not going to back down becasue you might get upset. Stop being petty and put on your big boy pants. I'm done with this.

  • Alrighty
I can almost guarantee that I know what this is about, and it is quite interesting that this comes up. I would like to tell a story as well
So I was in this game, and I made a 24 hour NAP with my neighbour. Days in, as the game was about to enter the final phase, I launched an attack on this player's mine. I truly forgot that there was an NAP between us. I was first called out on it in the public chat after the attack landed (which I thought was extremely petty and disrespectful) but I was quick to apologize, remove all drillers from the mine, and reimburse him the amount lost. Now I know what you are going to say, taking the mine still reduced the neptunium amount, but let me be frank, this guy was in dead last with only three bases. He wasn't winning anyways.
Now, I apologized and tried to mend it, but in both a public and private chat I was continuously being bombarded with accusations and disrespect. All has blown over now, but it is important for the player we are talking about to understand that what goes around comes around. Mistakes can be made, they really can be, and it is fine to call someone out on it, but in a respectful way. Things can be fixed, and you aren't always right. Just make sure you understand the mechanics of such things before you start lashing on others.

I don't think its fair to say that, I mean they are a sound diplomatic strategy. Diplomacy is a part of the game, and making agreements with others is perfectly fine. It constitutes as the same thing as trading/selling specialists to another player. It is just a diplomatic agreement

  • It's shorthand for a Non-Agression Pact. Basically you agree to not attack each other.

I'm curious Topkilla, how do you play if not with NAP's?
I'm highly suspicious of your motivations.
