which is generally fairly well received. However, negotiations themselves peter out a tad quick, leaving me wary of the inevitable gang-fight that proceeds.

Also, this neutral, polite introduction does little to sooth foulmouthed individuals and other uncooperatively-minded folk. How would one bring them around to one's way of thinking? How does one select who one wishes to talk to?

  • Well, I love to start with a "hi, how are you doing"
Polite, inquisitive, and direct, it instigates response but also signifies general friendliness.
I personally never start asking for a NAP because I often receive too many requests for NAPS, then I have no one to attack on a whim.
I make conversation about their Subterfuge history, their home country, first language, favourite specialist, sex jokes... Ultimately you tailor it to your audience.
If you connect, you make an alignment. If you at least are friendly, a NAP. If you find him/her annoying, rude, condescending, uncooperative, plain ol' stupid, or they ignore you, then you've found a target.
That's my opening-day strategy for figuring out who to do what with where.
Just be personable (just like real life), make jokes, and be nice. The way they respond dictates how horribly you massacre their kingdom later.

  • I copy paste the following message:
"-Hello Captain! Would you like to team up with me?
    - Sure / Yes / With pleasure
    -Great! All hail our alliance!"

  • Usually I start the game and think I should make alliances but nah too lazy. Then Nojo or Max contacts me and they ask hey would you like to work together and I say sure or I sit there and randomly attack someone because factories..they have them and I don't and I have the advantage so factories for me. Then someone else ask for a nap and later they ask for drillers and I go um sure. He's all my drillers and some funding.... Then Silver gets mad at me and I find myself suddenly being attacked by 3 sides for just being friendly and creating a monster. Then I revisit my strategy of man its so much easier actually socializing and making alliances. My only comfort is Silver is having a harder time than me.

Am I really that influential? How flattering.

Handling twice my economy's worth of drillers is my forté. In any case, every base I lose is a base my allies retake on my behalf but won't actually let me have back.

    Good talk is good thing.
    Good strat also good thing.

  • Yeah. That is rough when your ally uses you as a escape goat but doesn't offer anything beyond funding. I was wondering why Atulkki waited so long to attack me thinking he and Max was your ally unless they just wanted to kill me because I was funding Bhuka or they just wanted to attack me since I was preoccupied.

  • I just start with a 'Hiya!' in chat or something, and then NAPs with those who seem friendly.

  • Hey, peace?

    Yo! Alliance?

    Wassup, wanna die?
Piss off from the outpost, it's closer to me.

Hey, wanna kill this guy together?
