  • I like the randomness of the maps, starting outpost makeup and general outpost availability, and how it affects the game.

My current game with 8 players, we are really short on generators. Each player started with 2, but there are only 24 total generators on the map - so evenly split that means only 3 each.

Realization of how few generators to go around has caused conflicts over energy and protecting what generators you have. It also makes for some interesting strategies where you need to be mindful of your driller counts as you quickly max out and may get locked with your drillers spread too thin.

I found this map to be really fun so far.

  • Agreed, two thumbs up for fewer generators. It feels like such a waste to sit there with red "you're at your max" lights blinking on all your factories. So far it seems to encourage playing aggressively.

  • I agree. It can be fun. This is coming from the guy who started with 2 gens and...still only has 2. Tough break!

What I really like about this game is that it highlights the necessity of a tinker that much more. I find it interesting that a map can more directly affect your specialist choices. For instance, what if there was a map with:
    1. increased shields. This would also encourage quick attacking and make the infiltrator more valuable. Or:
    2. Perhaps a map where the nearby generators and outposts aren't free, but have vagrants or shields up already.

There's probably a lot more easy ideas that could make maps unique.

  • So while I kind of agree that fewer generators makes the game more interesting, I also think it takes away from the difference primacy aspect and forces war very early on.

My big problem lately is the spacing of the outposts. They seem either too clumped together or too spread out in areas and it's annoying me to the point where I've been playing less.

    Anyone else having this issue?

  • Yep i also think it is more interesting when we have few generators, because we hit the capacity limit quickly and so the game become more tense

  • Right now, I'm playing a game where I have the opposite: not enough factories. And I have the opposite feeling about this. It's a pain and incredibly infuriating. So, I don't know, resource scarcity is great at times, but I feel like it can kill games as well. I'm just sitting there, kind of fighting a war but not really because neither of us has the driller production to support it.
