What if instead of a Queen, there was a "You" unit. It would behave identically to the queen, except it can be captured just like a specialist. If You are captured you can't issue orders, but an ally could recapture and release you.

Given the timescale of the game, I think most players would abandon the session and move on and possibly never really know they were reactivated. This also has flavor implications for the princess.
