Jabber gateway to game chat

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • This would be amazing; it's hard to communicate w/ other players while at work via the game app, but often a basic chat client is considered acceptable during work hours.

An open source jabber server should be able to interact relatively seamlessly with the login credentials apparatus of Subterfuge (certainly as easily as this forum software), and the messages themselves are fairly straightforward. Automatically providing game/player groupings might take a little work, but if one communicates to [ Game ID::username ] handles, each pair of identifiers is probably unique enough.

  • I agree this could be pretty cool, and maybe even implementable within the forum itself (many forums have a chat box embedded at the top). Another way would be an IRC chat server, where the game automatically creates a channel with the GameID (example: #Game535340), and sets a password only visible to those within the game (within the game app, so a bit of app-surfing would be necessary, at least in the beginning of the game).

Dunno how easy/hard that would be to implement, but it would be pretty cool. To be clear, I mean the IRC only to make it easier to embed within the forum (as I know IRC is easily embedded, but I don't know if Jabber is exactly).

Just realized also that if you really want to talk shop, you can write down all the users in your game and their colors and create a forum post for general chat and PM people on the forums for 1-on-1 diplomacy discussions.
