Releasing a Specialist

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I am about to take an outpost which will capture me 3 specialists, a helmsman, engineer, and a general (allies). What does releasing a specialist do? Can I release all three and keep them all to myself? Does a release cost a specialist point from your queen?

I currently have an engineer so would releasing the engineer repair 50%?

I could use an upgrade point and hire a diplomat, will a diplomat release all specialists at that outpost and give them to myself?

I'm not quite sure about releasing and capturing specialists so any information you can give is helpful.

  • Releasing just means you give them back to their original owner.

There's no way to earn specialist points, everyone gets one every 18 hrs or something like that.

The only way to turn captured specialists to your team is by hiring a hypnotist. Or borrowing own from an ally

  • A captured specialist is still owned by it's original owner. When you release a captured specialist it will send the specialist back towards it's closest outpost using a sub of your colour. Once it gets back to it's owner it will be released and the owner will take control again.

The only way you can turn a captured specialist over to your team is via a hypnotist.

The best way to test how this all works is to fast forward the time machine until after you capture the specialist and release it. Then fast forward and watch what happens. You can always cancel the future order. This lets you experiment and see what happens.

  • Thanks for the replies! That makes sense. I couldn't use time machine because I haven't paid for L2 clearance (I really want to) and already had orders in the time machine and didn't want to cancel them. Thanks for the info!
