Navipirate + Diplogeneral = bug??

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I am watching the broadcast videos and am confused. In FateCreatr's day 6 video he talks about using the navigator/pirate combo in conjunction with the general/diplomat to bounce the navipirate off of an incoming sub within the diplomat's range to deal free damage until the incoming sub is destroyed. This is an excellent technique that I used in the very same game, but he mentions that it is a bug and is being fixed? When is that happening—and why? It is a hard combo to assemble that can easily be countered with an assassin and enough drillers.

I guess this post is partially a question and partially a PSA announcing that the navipirate + diplogeneral is being nerfed.

  • its already in effect i believe. games use the rule set that was current when the game started, so that rules aren't changing mid game. since our broadcast game started in beta it was using a slightly outdated ruleset

the specifics of what changed i believe is that instead of bouncing right back to your base when they hit a sub, captured specialists are now sent to the nearest enemy outpost, when they land, if they are within range of a diplomat they are returned. so basically they only return when they are at outposts, not after sub combat.

not sure how i feel about the change yet, it was a fun combo, but it did seem to become the dominant strategy among veteran players, which is a little boring after awhile.

  • It's not exactly a bug, but it's certainly OP.

The change being made is that a diplomat only releases captured specialists from outposts.

So in the example you used the nav/pirate would make an attack and get itself captured and be sent to the enemies closest outpost. However, upon arrival (if within diplomat range) then the nav/pirate would be released again. It prevents constant attacks.

This change has already been made by the way. The broadcast game started before the change though.

I propose a different strategy for you. Get 2 x pirate/nav subs going and use the same tactic. The first sub attacks the enemy, and the 2nd sub attacks the captured pirate/nav combo to release it and free it to attack again.

    Edit: Pmoney sniped me :P

  • This will definitely change the value of the diplomat. Although, I can't say it's a bad change. The diplomat tricks have been the highest on the list of exploitable abilities and just outright strange tactics. It was fun catching people completely off guard with the nav + thief outpost attack but it felt dirty...
