Name your own outposts

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • As you've probably noticed, most of the outpost names in the game are just stand-in names that I grabbed off a random name generator. Time to have some better names!

If you would like to suggest better names for outposts, go ahead and post them here. We'll pick some of the ones we like best and add them to the game. This is your chance to have in-jokes in the game, name them after your cat, or whatever you want.

    Rules:
    - One word only
    - Relatively short (probably 10-12 letters tops)
    - No common words that can be confused in conversations, no profanity, etc, etc (use common sense :))

  • I'll be honest, I love many of the existing names. From references to luminaries like Calhamer to places that sound like places to do battle over ('the Battle for Landhall'; 'the Siege of Woodwitch'), I'd be sorry to see many of these place names go. Not every outpost should have a bombastic name - I like the understated ones. I also like the breadth of cultural and geographical references.

For all that, I'd love to see some more with nautical nods. These are mostly names of seas, oceanic trenches, ridges or plateaus:
Benthic (this one is the bottom layer of the sea, also a nod to the film the Abyss)
Brigman (Ed Harris's character in the Abyss)
Arronax (character in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea)
Rokovoko (the island that Queequeg is from in Moby Dick)
Tashtego (a character from Moby Dick)
    Haakon
    Diamantina
    Kermadec
    Puysegur
    Marmara
    Pechora
    Lazarev
    Halmahera
    Visayan
    Gakkel
    Kolbeinsey
    Reykjanes
    Kerguelen
    Laccadive

  • Janyce (After my lovely wife)
Dieppe (After the French Port city)
Emerald (After where I live, the Emerald City)
Nilbog (After a town in a movie I saw as a kid, "goblin" backwards)
    Serenity (you know)
R'lyeh (if you include any from anyone, please let it be this..)
    Sagan (After Carl)

    Thanks for the opertunity!

  • Goose, love the idea of R'lyeh! I wonder if you'd get a bonus or a penalty for holding it? And if you turned it into a mine.... woe. woe.

  • I have no good ideas for new base names and I really like most of the current ones.

My only suggestion is to reject most of the ones suggested above entirely because they should all seem familiar enough to average people that spelling them on an iOS/android device isn't a challenge.

Come to that, maybe they should be names that won't get rejected by autocorrect.
