For defense, is it better to have a sentry near a border, or a security chief to buff your overall defense and provide extra defense at an expected attack zone?
Also, thinking on the long run, the sentry can promote to war hero, allowing me to turn the tide.
Ah, these hard decisions is why I love Subterfuge!

Depends on your situation, but generally speaking, a sentry is less powerful than a Security Chief (it costs two specialist hires to get the Chief, so it had better be strong)
I'd also say the sentry is underwhelming unless used in conjunction with an intelligence officer or princess. Not that it's bad. It's just meh.
However, a sentry can dominate a game and save your rear end in the right situation (I'll post a video of me doing that in the video highlight boards later tonight, if that helps.)
I guess what I'm saying is, any specialist can break the game. But the promoted specialists are generally twice as strong.

Thanks! That makes sense. I guess a lot of Subterfuge is experience, as there are millions of possible scenarios which can originate from any move.

That is definitely the truth. If you're interested, though, I'd suggest you read this wiki post about specialist selection. It helps a lot.
