First game review

  • I'm not sure if I can post it here, but I just completed my first Subterfuge game, and successfully as well (although all players were beginners as well).
    I'd like to see how this would be different compared to more experience players (perhaps more aggressive?), as well as any comments on how I could have done better or differently!
    At the bottom of this post is a link to the video taken from Subterfuge's own video uploader (Iphone 4s). I love the music though!
    Note that I immediately allied myself with orange (bottom) and cyan (far top/low bottom) at the start of the game, and the alliance(Pandasecret-me, Albano-orange, Thor-cyan) held all through the game and let us all win! Also note there were 3 people who autoresigned, which made the game a bit easier. I ket diplomacy with e_nigma and Telfire at a neutral, somewhat aggressive with Totpy, and at war with purestumpage. Give a shout-out if you were in this game!

  • Kinda hard to tell from the video, but from what I know from playing in beta and from playing post-launch I'll share, if that's what you're looking for.
    Generally experienced players are more reliable and direct with their allies (not always, but normally) than new players. Newer players have a tendency to get bogged down in wars they can't win, while experienced players only pick fights they know they can win quickly.
    In addition to that, experienced players are more familiar with the ins and outs of specialist mechanics, so the tactical play is (predictably) more advanced.
    You can expect experienced players to play the game diplomatically. It's a rookie mistake to try to lone wolf it.

    Some other points:
    Higher-level games are more dramatic than lower-level games. Wars are explosive and fast-paced, the combos are powerful, and the diplomacy is tense.
    Lower-level games aren't less aggressive per se, but it's like fighting with nerf guns. Intense, but ineffective.
    Experienced players play more mind games than inexperienced players. A lesson I learned pretty quickly is that convincing your opponent they're in danger is sometimes more important than actually being a threat
