In-game notes

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I think the ability to take in-game notes about your opponent's movements (or anything else, for that matter) might be useful. The time machine does make it easy to rewind and see what happened, but I like having a document to refer to.

I have found that the communication panel allows players to send messages with no recipients, which does essentially allow one to take notes that nobody can see. Is that intentional?

  • nice catch on the no recipient bug! and yeah, it's a bug, not a feature :)

what kind of notes would you take? trying to figure out what the unmet need is, in case notes is not the only way to address it.

we do plan add the ability for players to take notes on other players. you would look at a player's profile and you'd have a text box there where you can write whatever you want (and only you can see it). the idea is to be able to keep track of things you want to remember across games.

  • I had been thinking about something similar but in regards to monetization, which I have seen discussed at all.

There are a number of things you could keep track of by hand if you want, and information you can infer from what you know about a player. For example you if you can see 300 drills and they have 400 then you know they have 100 spread across the the bases (or in transit) that you can't see. Or you know if their speed is X then they have Y specialist. things like that.

I don't have the time or inclination to track those things, but some kind of advanced info panel with info I could track or deduce might be a good way to monetize since it isn't pay to win.

Just a thought. I don't know what the plans are, but I would certainly purchase this game.

You could have totally convinced me the "no recipient" thing was a feature!

What you're describing could definitely cover what I'm talking about--I really like the idea of being able to see information about specific players across games. Makes it easier to remember who double-crossed me.

I'd also like the ability, though, to take notes on a specific game and have them all in one place. The info panel is incredibly useful, but tracking suspected alliances, potential planned moves that I don't necessarily want to queue up in the time machine, and other points about the current game only are the types of things I'm thinking about. That info certainly could be spread across the profiles of the players in that game, but centralizing them would make them a little easier to think about.

I do like the sound of the profiles, it really is something I was hoping would make it into the game.

Would these profiles have some sort of win/loss information as well? Perhaps even "achievements" although I don't really like the word achievements so maybe "milestones"?

Yes! Part of the point of those profiles is to give you an idea of how experienced/strong other players are, so you can better pick your opponents (or decide to jump in a public game full of sharks).
