After being burnt on specialist trails when my neighbor canceled his gift sub seconds before launch, I was wondering if there was any thought about structuring trails in the future?

I don't think so. Trust based on promise alone is one of Subterfuges features. Trust involves risk, and misplaced trust has consequences.
