Revered elder and General

I have an attack an outpost where my opponent has a Revered elder, and they also have a General (elsewhere).

I've noticed that the General still destroys some drillers. Although the wording on the revered elder would indicate that no specialists participated, therefore the General's bonus would not apply.

What is the expected behaviour?

this is the correct behavior. the wording on the general is "When one or more of your specialists is present where combat occurs..." so the specialists just need to be present for the bonus, they aren't required to participates.

we chose for things to be this way so that there's no ambiguity about non-combat specialists like the foreman. does a foreman ever participate in combat?

Ah, I see the rules text on the General as:

Travels 50% faster than ordinary subs.
When one or more of your specialists participates in combat 10 enemy drillers are destroyed.

Mine do. Standard issue pipe wrenches.
