pirate chasing too long

  • Hi,

I think the pirate behavior is a little bit odd when it comes to chasing down enemy navigator.

Background is last night I had to intercept a navigator and pirate locking in on my Queen, but I was in the middle to prevent that. I tried to wait to the last minute, but couldnt exactly measure as I didnt want to stay awake. Now the navigator changed course and the pirate follows for a very long time going into a trap I couldnt prevent. I think its weird that the pirate moves for so long time even though it couldnt catch up. Its now 10 minutes after the navigator all the time. Of course it would also be bad if it stopped right away. I wasnt sure what will happen last night. I expected it to chase it for limited time (4 hours would be fine regarding sleeping) - right now it will be 14 hours also leaving me without my last 100 drillers ;-)

Maybe at least some unchase button could help here.

  • Yup, unfortunately this is a feature/bug that the pirate has - and makes it very risky to target subs with navigators and a speed unit.
Basically, if the game realizes at any point where if no changes are made your pirate can't catch the navigator sub before it lands somewhere, it will send the pirate in the opposite direction until the navigator sub lands somewhere.
Thus, it is highly recommended to either not target navigator subs unless you're absolutely sure you have to speed and distance advantage, or equip a navigator to your pirate as well, so you can stay on course.

I like this idea - something like a disengage button. Maybe if you used it, the pirate would return to the original outpost - that might help to prevent people from being able to use unfriendly subs to smuggle around.

  • As I said it targeted my king. So there is no way to counter it unless you have a navigator yourself. My way to counter it was to put many drillers onboard and make a king before he could catch my pirate, which may have worked, but I was out of my specialists and drillers for 14 hours.

Also I tried to outmaneuver the navigator with my king by moving the same way the navigator was coming from. That also failed. I expected it to be a timing issue, but the navigator apparently changed course faster than my King started.
