The game periodically freezes when I'm using chat.

Sometimes it can happen, its just a glitch. It shouldn't affect the game overall, and if you relaunch it should be fine. I find this to happen when people spam message, and sometimes I find that my message bar remains on the screen after I close the chat tab. Don't worry about it, that's just a bug in the game, it won't be a game-breaker.
