Specialist bug or non-obvious interaction? You decide!

  • I'm genuinely not sure if this specialist interaction is a bug or resolving as intended in some non-obvious way I can't figure out.

    The setup:
I'm the red player, and I have a sub with 29 drillers as well as a Princess, Sentry and Double Agent heading towards another outpost I own. Immediately following it (and difficult to see in the screenshot) is a sub with 0 drillers and a Saboteur.

An enemy sub (blue) with 0 drillers and a Pirate is on an intercept course with the first sub (containing the Double Agent). I verified that he is targeting the sub with 3 specialists and not the Saboteur sub by checking the combat preview for all three subs, though I didn't take screenshots.

What do you think the outcome will be?

My expectation would be that the Double Agent sub would swap with the Pirate sub, so that when all is said and done the Princess, Sentry and Double Agent would be in a blue sub heading back to blue's outpost and the Pirate would be in a red sub heading to my lower outpost. (This assumes the specialist swap happens after the Pirate has reversed course - if it's before, I'd expect the Pirate in a red sub to be heading to my closest outpost, and the Double Agent & co. in a blue sub to be heading to my lower outpost on its original course.) In either case, the sub with the Saboteur should be unaffected.

    Here's what happened:

    Image

I got the Pirate, and it's heading back up to my outpost. Fine. But, how on Earth did the Double Agent sub revert back to my ownership, redirected to the enemy outpost, while the enemy ended up with a Saboteur (not a captive) headed to my outpost? The only way I know that I could have gotten the Double Agent back is if it crossed paths a second time, with the Saboteur sub - in which case it should be heading back to my outpost, not to the enemy's.

Is this being resolved as expected in a way I'm not seeing or is there a bug here? Hopefully somebody can explain it, because I'm stumped :)

Also - the notifications I got when the Double Agent flipped were reversed (and I did get two). So I got one along the lines of "TACD's double agent has changed sides and now belongs to you" and one similar to "your double agent has changed sides and now belongs to TACD".

  • wow, this is really confusing. we will look into it, but i think what happened is something like this:
    * blue pirate reaches your red sub with the DA and the double agent swaps ownership
    * the pirate is set to head back to red's nearest outpost while the DA is set to head back to
    * immediately after the previous combat, red saboteur engages the blue double agent sub in combat and they swap ownership

what i'm still not clear on is:
    1. why the red DA sub changes course
    2. why the blue DA sub engages in combat with the saboteur

  • Maybe there is a 10 minute combat phase where the enemy pirate sub and your double agent sub sit still while they combat. During this, your saboteur sub maybe rammed into the two sub and then another weird round of combat ensued?
